While The Poison is corny at all times, it’s still a charismatic album with a lot of impressive riffs and it definitely had somewhat of an impact on me. Hold on before you lump this in with the other millions of garbage alternative metal albums, I hate those just as much as Something that not many people touch on is the fact that Bullet For My Valentine smartly structured their songs in a palatable fashion. Outside of “Tears Don’t Fall” and “The End”, all tracks clock in under 4:07 – putting to rest the problem of heavier forms of metal sometimes not being accessible to outside audiences. Back a couple of years ago, they released a somewhat promising EP which won the hearts of hundreds of scene kids across Britain. “Right from the album cover this thing gets you attention, Bullet for My Valentine, the name gets your attention, Scream Aim Fire, makes you wonder, pop the disk in, and the first track, Scream Aim Fire, punches in the face with full force, a good kind of punch, Hearts Burst Into Fire, the intro grabs your ears and caresses them with a beautiful hard rock melody, Waking the Demon, it Bullet For My Valentine - Knives. this makes me think of a metalcore version of Machine Head. Which means yes, it is heavy as hell. They actually delivered on their promise this time. Well done lads. Wow that's a great comparison, parts of it really do sound like Machine Head. .
